What a delightful idea! I think it’s my childhood love of “sample day” at the grocery store reincarnated. Just as I looked forward to finding the best snack sample, in my adult life, I can peruse a variety of wine and beer and determine which will be my social partner for the coming months.

There’s no doubt that buying wine and craft beer can be intimidating. Will that beer really taste like oranges? Will the $7 bottle of wine be a disappointment? Will the $20 bottle not mesh with your taste? And we all know that the descriptions on the label often leave something to be desired (what does a Tanin taste like, anyway?!?).

Why not spend an evening figuring it all out? Try a variety of wine to figure out which flavors mesh best with your palate, learn some fancy wine lingo, or simply become more comfortable with the subject matter. As an added bonus, learn how to pair wine and beer with different foods – and try the foods too. (I TOLD you it’s my childhood love reincarnated!)

How are those resolutions coming along? As I sit here and nibble on a giant brownie, I’m wondering if other people are as weak as I am. Healthy eating? Ha! Have you tried our desserts?? But not everyone is a sweet tooth like myself. So what is it that you can’t resist? A crunchy bowl of chips? That perfectly cooked slice of pizza? Or a mouth watering slice of prime rib?

Don’t get me wrong, there are days when nothing sounds better than a cool, crisp salad, but we don’t scold ourselves for those choices. How nice would it be if I were honestly more attracted to salad than sweets. Sigh. I have a long way to go.

To those of your still on the resolution band wagon, keep up the good work! If you’ve fallen off, there is still time to hop back on (though I suggest waiting until AFTER the Super Bowl parties are over). Otherwise, feel free to join me. I’d be happy to share a slice of cheesecake with you!

You’re likely to find heavy flavors of chocolate and coffee – perfect for a cozy drink by the fireside!

Several times a week, we will be asked, “Where’s Jack?” My personal preference is that we let sleeping dogs lie, but for those looking to have “contact” with our tenured guest, the world wide web offers the following advice:

* There’s an App for that! Several ghost-seeking apps have been created for smart phones users to help you pick up on changes in the surrounding electromagnetic field, vibrations, and sounds that may indicate paranormal activity!
* Ouija Boards – a classic favorite to make contact with those who have passed on. Nothing like a little board game after dessert!
* Click! Mysterious “orbs” are frequently seen in photos taken throughout the restaurant. Are they spirits, or just an allergy hazard??
